Self-driving Uber car kills Pedestrian in Arizona
An Uber self-driving Volvo SUV hit and killed a pedestrian crossing the street in Arizona, according to Reuters report published Monday, March 19, 2018. The deceased was identified as “Elaine Herzberg” a 49 years old woman was walking her bicycle when the tragedy occurred. This marks the first fatality recorded involving an autonomous vehicle.
The accident raised the flag on the future of this technology said to revolutionize the transport industry. Uber said it was suspending North American tests of its self-driving vehicles, which are currently going on in Arizona, Pittsburgh and Toronto.
